Memorial Day

I want to honor those who served, on this day and every day.
Most notably:
PFC Andrew Grey US Army, Korean Conflict
Sargeant Claud New USMC, Korean Conflict
CPO Jeffrey New , USN Retired
My family served in almost every branch of the military.
While I am grilling kabobs in my backyard today you can bet I'll remember thier sacrifice so the rest of us can live free, and especialy those who never came home.
Carry on, soldier.

The Gunslinger

Gunny at the sumit.

It was a battle but he made it to the top. He gave it all the guts and ammo he had too. Gunny is one of those endearing and unforgetable characters you don't meet often climbing. After the climb he casually took a nap propped up against a tree. I sent a couple trad lines I wanted to do at Muir Valley and we all had a great time. I'll post up some pictures as soon as I finish the role.

Don't look down

The first free ascent of "Top-Hat" 5.7 at the now closed Arena. Cool chimneying is what Ynots do best.

A Rope Door Mat

It's done! it's nice and cushy on the feets too. A picture was too much trouble so I drew a graphic in Paint to explain the procedure. It took a little patience but it was worthwhile to re use a retired rope. First arange a doubled rope like the first sketch, roughly 2 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 feet in loose rows. then weave the loose ends over and under alternating with each new row of 2. When it gets close to the end go back and push the woven rows tight against each other and weave in some more. Mine ended up lopsided so it pays to keep all ends uniform. Maybe a wooden form would be better. heres another tip: dont eat Cheetos while posting. The keyboard gets orange and funky.

Seneca rap

Yes it was a long way down. This was the second of three rapells to get down the front side. I like this picture because it shows what the climbs are like. Lots of them follow the cracks in those thin flakes.

Team Smoke Break

WOOhooo! Climbing with Dwayne again Saturday was like old times. I got spanked badly on a couple lines but we did go up to Miliscary and have a looksee at Jungle Beat. I was not prepared. It looks radicle. I may need some gear and a pair to get up it. Some more beta might be in order too. Everyone that I asked about it, suddenly had fuzzy recollections. I'm starting to suspect that it's really scary and they didn't want to admit getting spanked or something even more sinister. It's really long and steep. I still have my list of Larry Day routes to do, so I may pick a different one till this fall when I'm sending harder. Procrastination is a wonderful tool aint it?
Sunday I climbed with a crew from Mass. They were an odd lot but we had fun and everyone was sending. The guy from my favorite gym was witness to me sport climbing. Oh man! I said the S word. Even worse I had a good time climbing sport. Dang! said it again. I'm gonna fry.
The rain started as soon as I left the Red and it rained all the way home.
It was cool to see lots of old friends and hang out around the fire, but best of all was sharing a rope with a bro. I almost forgot! I got a brand new bootifull rope!
It's a silver Maxim so now I guess Bloo will be made into a doormat. High Ho Silver. Sure is a pretty rope. Weaving Bloo into a doormat should prove interesting. I'll let you know how it goes.
